Assistant Professor
Faculty

Office: 460 I EB

Biography:

Willie K. Harrison graduated with his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 2007 from Utah State University. He graduated with his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2012 from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with research focusing on physical-layer security, error-control coding, and cryptography. From 2012 to 2017, Dr. Harrison worked as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty at Brigham Young University in the fall of 2017. His research interests are coding for secrecy, algebraic coding structures, continuous phase modulation waveforms, and sports performance analytics. Dr. Harrison also runs a research abroad program funded by the National Science Foundation that supports international research experiences for students (IRES) at the University of Coimbra in Portugal.

Research Interests:

Physical-layer security, error-control coding, cryptography, information theory, graph theory, network coding, software radios, signal & image processing, telecommunications, probability and statistics, linear algebra, number theory, and sports performance analytics.

Committees:

  • Committee/Council Member, ABET Committee, March 2018
  • Committee/Council Member, Undergraduate Committee, September 2017

Awards:

  • Fourth Place Paper Award, MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference (2017) - Paper was ranked 4th of roughly 200 total submissions. The work was later referenced by the Washington Post.
  • Teacher of the Year Award, College of Applied Science, UCCS (2016)
  • Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Tech (2008)
